How do I measure my MPG from a fill-up?
Fill up, note the odometer, drive, then fill up again. Miles driven divided by the gallons pumped at the second fill-up is your MPG. Average a few fill-ups for a steadier number.
How is the idling cost worked out?
Idle hours a week times gallons burned per hour, times the diesel price. The 0.8 gallons an hour default comes from Argonne National Laboratory’s idle-reduction research for a typical heavy-duty truck. Use your own rate if you know it.
Which diesel price is used?
The latest U.S. average diesel price published each week by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, with its date. Replace it with the price you pay.
Are my numbers stored anywhere?
